Description
The “tomato bell pepper” Shirina was bred by Dr. Hartmut Spieß, a pioneer of biodynamic breeding, at Dottenfelder Hof and registered in 2024. It is a variety explicitly for outdoor cultivation with red to dark red ripening, blocky fruits. The plants are of medium length (approx. 80 cm) and bear well-developed, sweet, aromatic and pleasantly thick-fleshed fruits. During the harvest, the plants remont until late fall with many fruits per plant. The fruits are large with an average weight of around 120g. Despite the heavy fruits, the variety is very sturdy and only needs to be supported to produce a full yield. The peppers ripen in July. The fruits, which can also be eaten green, are suitable for fresh consumption as well as for making preserves and powder.
