Description

Black lentil is characterised by its small black seeds, upright growth and pretty blue flowers. In the kitchen they are used in stews or to make spreads. Lentils can be grown well in mixed culture with cereals or other supporting crops.

Location requirements

Sunny and warm. Soil rich in limestone and loess.

Sowing

April. Sowing depth: 2 – 4 cm.

Germination

15 – 20 °C, 8 days.

Plantation

Lentils are legumes and bind nitrogen from the air. It is therefore not advisable to fertilize them excessively.

Distances

Row spacing 15 – 30 x 5 cm.

Harvest

August – September.
